Good morning to all. May I welcome you to the last week of pre-summer. I hope you’ve got a nice base tan going, as well as plenty of banked PTO. The forecast in KC could not be better for next weekend. Mid-80s and sunny Friday-Monday.

We’re about to hit time-off season after this coming weekend. May this be a summer of rest, refreshment and renewal for you and your loved ones.

We’re going to get right into it. But first, please subscribe if you haven’t already, throw me a like or forward this to a friend who you think may enjoy this content.

Due to the holiday weekend coming up, next week’s MMPD will be sent on Tuesday morning.

Off we go.

Building The Perfect Memorial Day Weekend

Friday Morning: PTO. Out-of-office noti engaged. Golf.

Friday Afternoon: Hit the road to the lake. Grocery store run upon arrival.

Friday Night: 4-6 brown liquor drinks and a cigar on the deck.

Saturday Morning: Early wakeup, make breakfast (bacon, eggs, pancakes) for the whole house. Bloody Mary bar. Take the boat out.

Saturday Afternoon: Sunbathing, light boozing, sandwiches for lunch, take the boat out after lunch and hit a bar on the lake. Nap.

Saturday Night: Order Pizza from a local shop after a sunset cruise, heavy boozing.

Sunday Morning: Sleep in, medium-late brunch between 11am-1pm. Ease off the booze.

Sunday Afternoon: Ease back into the booze with a couple seltzers, lazy day by the water.

Sunday Night: Commandeer the grill. Burgers and dogs. Garlic bread and summer salad on the side. Mini golf.

Monday Morning: Wakeup whenever, clean up the house. Hit the road. Casey’s breakfast pizza.

Monday Afternoon: Playoff hockey on TV. Nap.

Monday Night: DoorDash Chinese or Indian Food. Mad Men Season 4. Rest.

Memorial Day BBQ Menu

I have not yet decided whether or not to throw a big MDW bash, but I do know I will be throwing down this weekend. I plan on repeating my Mother’s Day feast I made for my mom earlier this month. Got plenty of questions about that. Here’s how to make it.

Pork Spare Ribs
50/50 Meat Church Honey Hog + Lawry’s rub, 225-250 over apple wood, wrapped in foil and sauced (50/25/25 Sweet Baby Ray’s, apple cider vinegar, melted butter) at 180, pull when temping 203-205 (probes like butter if you don’t have a meat thermometer), rest for 30 min.

German Potato Salad
Boil yellow baby potatoes until fork tender, drain, lightly mash.
Fry 4-6 strips of bacon in a sauce pan. When nearly done, toss 1/2 yellow onion (diced) and 4 cloves fresh garlic (minced) in. Stir until translucent.
Add one tbsp of apple cider vinegar, one tbsp of brown sugar, one tbsp butter, salt to taste.
Reduce heat to low, cover and simmer for one hour.
Boil two eggs. Ice bath. Peel. Chop. Mix in.
Combine. Let sit overnight.

Sonoran Salad
Recipe in the link.

Garlic Bread
One loaf Italian bread, halved
Four cloves fresh garlic, chopped
One stick softened butter, mix in garlic, two tbsp of parmesan cheese, one tbsp olive oil, one tsp each of red pepper flakes, pepper, salt.
Spread on both halves of the bread
Top with colby jack cheese.
Broil on high for two minutes or until the cheese is melted and the edges are browned.

A Quick Word On BBQ Sides

Use this simple guide to picking sides. One sweet, one savory, one fresh.

Sweet: Cornbread, corn on the cob, roasted sweet potatoes, fruit
Savory: Roasted/mashed potatoes, baked beans, mac and cheese, garlic bread
Fresh: Sonoran Salad, coleslaw, veggie tray

Boat That Would Financially Ruin Me of the Week

Carver Santa Cruz 26 Cabin Cruiser

Price tag: $33,350
Length: 26 feet
Engine: 5.7L Mercruiser
Seating capacity: 6

“Hey! You scratched my anchor!”

Long have I dreamed of a boat like this. Looks to be in incredible shape and ready to make any washed mid-30s Midwestern midlife crisis dreams come true. It even comes with a galley and sleeper for you to live in for 4-6 weeks while your divorce gets finalized.

That’s it for this week. Let’s have a summer.
